Osteria Bonelli

I visited Osteria Bonelli twice, and I have to say that overall it's a real Roman trattoria of the kind you find less and less these days: no frills, fair prices, cordial and genuine service. The cuisine revolves around the great classics of tradition, and on this front the restaurant has shown it knows how to grow. The carbonara and pasta alla gricia, which on my first visit had left me with some doubts — the gricia in particular had struck me as more of a cacio e guanciale, with an excess of creamy pecorino that altered its identity — on my second visit convinced me much more, with the gricia reaching a truly remarkable level. The zucchini flower was an absolute revelation, a perfect dish. Among the things I've tasted over time, the supplì and amatriciana have confirmed themselves as solid strong points. If I had to sum up the overall experience, I'd say that Osteria Bonelli is one of those places worth returning to: the Roman classics are treated with respect and, from my experience, with a care that over time seems only to have improved.
